Wonderful: The swedish model

And we thought we were alone! Suddenly we get the news that seven swedish indie-companies have formed a platform for cooperation and discussion called “The swedish model”. The companies are: Adrian Recordings / A TenderVersion Recording / Flora & Fauna / Hybris / I Made This / Nomethod Records / Songs I Wish I Had Written

They have the same ideas that we do: artists should get the money, internet and file sharing is not dangerous, but useful, the old music business structures are dying and so on. The best thing with their statement is that it is far from extreme. Very sensible and they give their opinions in a very approachable way. I am so tired of all the fundamentalism in this discussion, so a soft voice from the business side of the trench is just what is needed. We want to join them! I will give them a ring next week.

Have a look at their statement here. Both in English and Swedish, whatever you prefer: http://www.theswedishmodel.org/

Reviews and reviewers

We learn that it takes time for reviews to be published. Its 1,5 months since we sent all the packages, and now the are beginning to publish the reviews. So far The Modesty are getting really good press. Mostly 4/5 and some 3/5. The reviewers are writing very nicely about them.

Tree full of people are getting more mixed reviews: 1/5 up to 4/5. The critic aims mostly at the confusing mix of influences. One wrote that its pretentious… Hahaha.

So why bother with reviews? Isn’t it just a few people expressing their personal taste?  Well, the idea is that a good review is useful in marketing. 4/5 and 5/5 is great since its always better that someone outside our team spreads the acclaim. 2/5 and 3/5 is not useful in marketing, but its professionally good for the band to meet some critics and get serious remarks. 1/5 is just an insult.

Here is a great site, kritiker.se, that gives overview of the reviews.

Gramtone

My name is Pelle Filipsson, and I run Gramtone. This is a new kind of record company collectively owned by a music cooperative of 20 people/6 bands. We are based around a beautiful studio building in the centre of Norrköping, Sweden. The manifesto Mu07 is the basis of our business. Read more at www.grammofon.com

My function at Gramtone could be described as "music publisher". I also work with web and IT in education, trying to follow the innovations on the web and the discussions regarding that issue.
